Active voice - Passive voice ( part 1)

Simple present tense

  • He writes a letter. (Active voice)
  • A letter is written by him.(Passive voice)

Passive voice - method:
A letter            is                   written                       by him
   ↓                ↓                    ↓                            ↓
object        am/is/are       past participle verb             doer

  • Study the following sentences too

1.She speaks English (Active voice)
  English is spoken by her (Passive voice)


2.We organise a trip (Active voice)
   A trip is organised by us (Passive voice)

3.They visit their parents (Active voice)
   Their parents are visited by them (Passive voice)

  • The following table will help to make the doer when we turn an active voice sentence in to passive voice

Presnt continuous tense

  • She is typing the project report. (Active voice)

1.The sweeper is cleaning the road (Active voice)

   The road is being cleaned by the sweeper (Passive voice)

2. The principal is delivering a lecture (Active voice)
    A lecture is being delivered by the principle (Passive voice)

3. They are transporting goods (Active voice)
    Goods are being transported by them (Passive voice)

Present perfect tense

  • We have won the competition.(Active voice)
  • The competition has been won by us.(Passive voice)

1.The accountant has signed the cheque (Active voice)

     The agenda has been delivered by the Secretary (Passive voice)
