Active voice - Passive voice ( part 2)

Simple past tense

  • She bought a new car. (Active voice)
  • A new car was bought by her. (Passive voice)

Passive voice - method:
A new car    was              bought                    by her
   ↓                                   ↓                        ↓
object     was/were   past participle verb           doer

e.g: They organised a singing competition (Active voice)
       A singing competition was organised by them (Passive voice)

       We met our new English teacher (Active voice)
       Our new English teacher was met by us (Passive voice)

       She wrote a new novel last month (Active voice)
       Anew novel was written by her last month (Passive voice)

Past continuous tense

  • He was taking the lunch. (Active voice)
  • The lunch was being taken by him. (Passive voice)

Passive voice - method:
The lunch          was being                      taken                        by him
     ↓                  ↓                            ↓                           ↓
 object         was/were + being        past participle verb             doer

e.g:  The doctor was examing the patients (Active voice)
        The patients were bieng examined by the doctor (Passive voice)

        The chief guest was awarding prices to the winners (Active voice)
        Prices were being awarded by the cheif guest to the winners (Passive voice)

        The president was addressing the meeting (Active voice)
        The meeting was being addressed by the president (Passive voice)

Past perfect tense

  • He had bought a new car. (Active voice)
  • A new car had been bought by him. (Passive voice)

Passive voice - method:
A new car             had been            bought                  by him
     ↓                     ↓                   ↓                       ↓
  object              had + been      past participle verb       doer

e.g: The police had found the lost article (Active voice)
       The lost article had been found by the police (Passive voice)

       They had rejected my application (Active voice)
       My application had been rejected by them (Passive voice)

       The doctor had discharge the patient (Active voice)
       The patient had been discharged by the doctor (Passive voice)
