1. Masculine Gender 2. Feminine Gender 3. Neuter Gender

(පුං ලිංග ) (ස්ත්‍රී ලිංග)  (නපුංසක ලිංග) යැයි නාමයන් පිළිබඳ ලිංග තුනකි.

පිරිමින් අඟවන නාම පුං ලිංගිකය. ස්ත්‍රීන් අඟවන නාම ස්ත්‍රී ලිංගිකය.

භාවිතයේ දී ස්ත්‍රී පුරුෂ දෙකටම අයත් නොවන නාම නපුංසක ලිංගික ය.

සමහර නාම ගැහැණු පිරිමි දෙ කොටසට ම පොදු ය. 

ඒවා  4. Common Gender: (සාධාරණ ලිංග) පවසන නාම ගණයට ගැනේ.

නිදර්ශන: 

පුංලිංගික:   man  (මිනිසා) dog   (බල්ලා)    ox  (ගොනා)

ස්ත්‍රී ලිංගික:  woman (ස්ත්‍රී)   bitch  ( බැල්ල) cow  (දෙන)

නපුංශක ලිංගික:  tree  (රුක)  house  (ගෙය)  hill (හෙල)

සාධාරණ ලිංගික: child (දරුවා) 

person (ස්ත්‍රී හෝ පුරුෂයා හෝ නපුංසකයා) pig (ඌරා හෝ ඊරි )

ස්ත්‍රී ලිංගික නාම සෑදෙන ක්‍රම තුනකි. 

1. පුරුෂ වාචක නාමයකට -ess යන ප්‍රත්‍යය එකතු කිරීමෙන්.

2. she , hen , maid යන පදයන් සුදුසු පරිදි එකතු කිරීමෙන්.

3. අමුතු ම වචනයක් යෙදීම් යන තුන් සැටියෙනි.

   (මෙසේ සෑදුණු නම් වැලක් පහත දැක් වේ.)

(a) Masculine (පුං ලිංගික) Feminine (ස්ත්‍රී ලිංගික)

author - authoress ග්‍රන්ත කතෘ - ග්‍රන්ත කර්ත්‍රී god - goddess දෙවියා - දෙවඟන  heir - hei උරුමක්කාරයා - උරුමක්කාරි poet - poetess කිවියරා - කිවියරී                              host - hostess ආගන්තුක සත්කාර කරන්නා - ආ. ස. කරන්නී lion - lioness සිංහයා - සිංහී patron - patroness  ආරක්ෂකයා - ආරක්ෂිකාව 

 priest - priestess  පූජකයා (දේවගැතියා) - පූජිකාව (දේවගැතිනී) prince - princess රජකුමරු - රජකුමරි shepherd - shepherdess එඬේරා - එඬේරී

(b) සමහර ශබ්දයකට - ess එක් වූ විට මුල පදයේ අග කොටස වෙනස් වේ. Masculine - Feminine

actor - actress නළුව - නිළිය conductor - conductress හසුරුවන්නා (පාලකයා) හසුරුවන්නී (පාලිකාව) director  - directress අධ්‍යක්ෂකයා - අධ්‍යක්ෂිකාව 

hunter - huntress දඩයම් කරන්නා - දඩයම් කරන්නී songsteRr - songstress ගායකයා - ගායිකාව tiger - tigress ව්‍යාඝ්‍රයා - ව්‍යාග්‍ර ධේනුව

(c) - ess ප්‍රත්‍යය එක් වූ කල කිසි පදයක අග කොටස ලොප් වේ. (වෙනස් වේ.) Masculine - Feminine

abbot - abbess ආශ්‍රමාධිපතියා - ආශ්‍රමාධිපතිනි emperor - empress අගරජ - අගරැජින 

lad - lass කොලුවා - කෙල්ල master - mistress  ගෘහස්වාමියා - ගෘහස්වාමිනී governer - governess ආංඩුකාරයා - ආංඩුකාරි 

(d) she , hen ආදී පද අතුරින් එකක් මුලට යෙදීමෙන් ස්ත්‍රී ලිංගික රූපය සෑ දේ. Masculine - Feminine:

he-goat එළුවා she-goat එළු දෙන he-bear වලසා she-bear වැලැහින්න  cock-sparrow ගේ කුරුල්ලා hen-sparrow ගේ කිරිල්ලී peacock මොනරා peahen සෙබඩ

man-servant මෙහෙකරුවා maid-servant මෙහෙකාරි milk-man කිරිවෙළෙන්දා milk-maid කිර්වෙළෙන්දී servant-man මෙහෙකරු servant-woman මෙහෙකාරි
